Comma, Bird;

you’ve always been, you’ll always be
a bird on branch in tallest tree.
you had already caught my eye
but noticing as i passed by
how soothingly your voice did float
out from your lungs, into your throat
from throat, to lips, then out, and down
words met my ears (me on the ground.)
they’re beautiful, no doubt, but wait,
i can’t truely appreciate
how wonderful you really are
admiring you from afar.
so suddenly i did desire
to reach and climb up, higher, higher.
you’re inching further away each
time that i think your branch i’ll reach.
but when i say ‘time to refrain
reaching for what i can’t attain’
you call out from above once more,
more sweetly even, than before.
you do not want to let me go,
you like to watch me struggle so.
how easily i’m roped back in
by feather, song, and charming grin.
evil and malicious?… No,
i shouldn’t like to think it so.
in fact i must confess i love
all things about you, little dove.
but no results? i’ve climbed too long.
i’m losing interest in your song.
(and even if that’s blatant lie
i tell myself to help get by)
you know i really must descend.
i’m sorry, i give up, my friend.
when i draw near, you fly away.
a wild bird will never stay.
so you must say good-bye to me,
or i’ll waste forever in this tree.
from down below i’m sure i’ll hear
your songs dancing around my ear
again someday, but for now, it’s gone.
i really must be moving on.
but now at least i finally see
that wild birds should be set free.
